One of many discoveries at the Waimea farmers' market: local nut butters and honeys.  Using organic produce locally sourced from across the Hawaiian islands, Aloha Spreads creates spreads that are naturally sweet from raw lehua honey and are made in a variety of flavors.  These small batch, artisanal products provide a genuine taste of the Hawaiian food culture.

Selling out of most flavors at the Oahu farmers' markets, I manage to bring home one or the last macadamia peanut butter spreads.  Incredibly smooth and rich in flavor, the combination of macadamia nuts with peanuts gives the nut butter an extra creamy component that is suprisingly delightful.  A nice change to my usual investments in extra chunky-chunky spreads.

Aloha Spreads provides samples at the markets, so I took a taste of the coconut peanut butter, then proceeded to ask for a jar in each size available.  With the addition of coconut oil to the nut butter, the taste is unlike the fake extract-sweetened coconut products found in the usual grocery store.

I highly recommend spreading the coconut flavor on your toast each snowy morning that Boston plans to bring this winter, so that the mind can be at ease, thinking about palm trees and sandy, pristine beaches.

Most of the Aloha Spreads's flavors are for order on their website, along with their organic honeys that are made in flavors like mango, coconut, and liliko'i, or passionfruit.  I'm thinking that those are a great cure-all addition to a hot cup of tea when the common cold suprises us during this change of seasons.

Gift giving season is around the corner, and I find that Aloha Spreads would be a unique, delicious treat for the loved ones that cannot start their day without a cup of tea and toasts with spreads.  Create a more unique PB&J sandwich, or drizzle some warmed honey or nut butters on top of a scoop of ice cream.  There are too many ways to relive the tropical taste of Hawaii with these terroir-driven, eco-conscious products from Aloha Spreads.
